(The Fireballs - 8/21/08; l to r: Ron Cardenas, George Tomsco, Rick Trice, Stan Lark)

What a Party! Had a blast subbing for the Fireballs' drummer when they played a concert at the Roosevelt County Fair (Portales, NM). Played a two hour set with them. Probably the most focused and intense drumming I've ever done, playing with these long time pros! I was sweating bullets. Great learning experience.

Of course it helps when they've been playing together for 40 years or so, eh? You get any rehearsal time?

Got a couple of sessions in rehearsal. But the dynamics change dramatically when playing an outdoor venue in front of a few hundred people, compared to an intimate jam in a living room. Totally different vibe!

Did you hear about the time the bass player locked his keys in the car?
It took two hours to get the drummer out.

How do you know when a drummer is knocking at your door?
The knock always slows down.

Blog some more or the jokes continue...
