Family

Last week, a few of the clan met in Hobbs, NM, for a long -awaited family reunion. It was nice to see my Dad's remaining brother and sister (out of seven originally), and a few cousins I hadn't seen in years (not to mention oodles and scads of great nieces and nephews, or whatever the orrect nomenclature is for the little urchins). And as you can see, whenever my brother and sister and I are together, great fun ensues.

Monday, Monday

Today I called in sick. Just to. I work in an office all week long, middle management stuff, and then work at home on the weekends on recording projects, music, sermons, preaching, plus trying to maintain the semblance of a relationship with my dear wife. Sometimes I need a "down" day, just to totally unplug and do nothing.

Today was such a day. Sounds decadent, doesn't it? I'm not proud of it. Just is.

I spent the day reading some trashy murder mystery, watching movies ("Children of Men," "Dune."), and working a SoDuKo puzzle.

Yesterday (Sunday) my wife and I laid down some tracks to new song. I am only somewhat pleased with the results of this current project we are recording. All is well in laying down rhythm guitar, percussion, bass, keyboards. But when it comes to my singing and electric lead guitar playing, I want to stick my head in the toilet and flush. My voice sounds like a drunken sailor howling from the alleyways (not that I know what THAT particularly sounds like.) I seem to remember reading that John Lennon hated his voice on record; that he always forced the recording engineers to come up with innovative new ways to alter the sound of his voice in the studio. Guess I totally empathize with him on that. I tend to drown my voice with reverb, chorus and other heavy special FX, so that I no longer recognize it.

I also hate the way I look. If anyone knows of heavy special FX to drown my face in, please let me know.

...so I suppose it's too late to say I really had a great day, and I'm not really that displeased with myself.

Thanks for noticin'.
